Records, mainly 1967-1975, of Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW), a national organization formed in 1967 by Vietnam veterans who favored American military withdrawal from Vietnam. National office records include minutes and other papers of the executive and steering committees, correspondence and reports of regional and local chapters, subject files, newsletters, press releases, and other publicity materials. Of special note is correspondence with various incarcerated prisoners. The 1971 Winter Soldier Investigation into war crimes allegations is documented by extensive transcripts and statements. Involvement in the Agent Orange litigation is incompletely documented, but there are research materials and some information on the veteran’s class action suit. In addition to records from the national office, there are records created by three local chapters: Brooklyn-Northern New Jersey (later Clarence Fitch), Madison, and Milwuakee. The Madison records include radio programs and musical recordings by Jim Wachtendonk. The photographs document various demonstrations and events, as well as scenes in Vietnam. The videos document activities in Nicaragua, Agent Orange work, and activities in the District of Columbia that preceded Operation Dewey Canyon IV. The sound recordings are primarily from the Madison chapter and include local Agent Orange and Veterans Day activities and commercial recordings by Jim Wachtendonk.
