MISSION STATEMENT
Our Spring Break is a student and youth initiated and led alternative spring break. It is the foundation of last year's Our Spring Break, showing that we still march forth to end the illegal occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan, we are working towards ending the use of torture by the US in Guantanamo, and we advocate a shift towards a new foreign policy that is based on human rights and justice for all peoples of the world. We strive for a better world with the motto: "Our Spring Break Will End Your War"
WHO WE ARE
We are the college and high school age students and youth who organize and execute Our Spring Break. Last year over 150 students came to DC over their spring break to protest the War in Iraq and to work for justice. This year, we have the Obama administration taking us in some new directions, but countless justice and human rights atrocities have not been corrected and the wars still rage on. We go to DC and immerse ourselves in the heart of both the war machine and the huge network of those working to destroy it. By day, we lobby congress, do outreach, and direct action, and by night we hold trainings, open mics, film screenings, and concerts, all working together to inspire each other, learn from each other and promote our goals.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
We are seeking students to come to DC for their spring break and help end the illegal occupation, and related injustices. We will have a presence in DC from March 8th-March 22nd. The week of the 8th through the 14th will be focused on the issue of torture and youth will be working with Witness Against Torture and their 100 Days Campaign. The following week will focus on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, with March 19th being the anniversary of the invasion of Iraq.
