The Cage Prisoner Tour, highlighting conditions in Guantanamo Bay, began in London on the 11th of January and will end on the 3rd February at Cardiff University. Despite the fact that President Obama has announced that Guantanamo will be closed, a year is a long time and 242 prisoners remain incarcerated at Guantanamo.

Guantanamo Bay stands as one of the most potent symbols of unlawful detention in the world today. The detention of suspected terrorists as the prison camps has evoked emotion from those seeking its closure and continuance.

Cageprisoners presents Two Sides – One Story­, a tour of the UK that brings those on opposite sides of wire at Guantanamo together for the first time.

Chris Arendt, a former guard at the base has agreed to speak about his experiences in detaining suspected terrorists and bring new insights into the way the US administration carried out policies against them.

Also for the first time the detained Al Jazeera journalist Sami El Haj will be speaking with Moazzam Begg as they both reflect on life at the prison on the opposite to Chris.

This unique tour is a historic moment in the continued War on Terror and will be launched on 11th January 2009, exactly seven years after the first transfers to Guantanamo Bay.

Cageprisoners presents Two Sides – One Story , a tour of the UK that brings those on opposite sides of wire at Guantanamo together for the first time. Chris Arendt, a former guard at the base has agreed to speak about his experiences in detaining suspected terrorists and bring new insights into the way the US administration carried out policies against them. Also speaking is Moazzam Begg who reflects on life at the prison on the opposite to Chris. The two are joined by Jarallah Al Marri, also a former detainee, whose brother remains in US custody.

A former Guantanamo Bay guard has joined forces with released detainees in Britain to expose the torture inflicted by interrogators at the camp.
Chris Arendt was transferred to work as a guard at the camp while still a teenager. After becoming disillusioned with what he saw, he left the army and joined, among others, the campaign group Iraq Veterans Against the War.
Arendt said that he felt compelled to speak out about the brutal treatment of prisoners at the camp. He said that among techniques used to disorient them were "frequent flyer" programmes, whereby detainees would be moved hourly from their cell, night and day.
The process was a lengthy one because of the "three-piece suits" the prisoners wore: three sets of shackles, around their hands, waist and ankles.
Although Arendt described some of his fellow guards as "psychotic", he added: "A lot of guys are not bad people, just regular guys - working class - doing their job, but what was definitely a minority saw it as a chance to go free-range and . . . hog-wild about their fantasy of killing a 'raghead'".
He added: "A lot of them wanted combat and were frustrated that they weren't in Iraq, so they made the environment as violent as they could."
